Meet KristenTwenty years in education and guiding students
From the time I babysat as a pre-teen and teenager, everyone in my life knew I’d be a teacher or work in education in some capacity.
No one was surprised when I, an avid and life long reader and writer, decided to major in English Education at Florida State University. I taught and tutored English, test prep, and study skills for close to a decade before earning my Master’s Degree from Wake Forest University in Counseling.
As a comprehensive High School Counselor, I got my feet wet with the college admissions and advising process. The process is complex and students needed experienced guidance to navigate it, I thrived on being the compass. It wasn’t long before I decided to bring my empathetic counseling skills and experience working with teens to the College Counseling realm of education.
For several years now, I have been shining a light on the path toward college admissions for students and families. I have worked with students who are now in Ivy and Ivy+, and helped students who are academically struggling to find a best fit school and path to their futures. My goal remains to guide students in exploring their strengths, finding their fit, and shining a light on the process to reduce the stress involved as much as possible.

Most families begin working with me junior year, when college selection and application planning become more immediate. For students with ambitious goals, starting earlier allows time to explore interests, plan coursework thoughtfully, and approach the process with clarity rather than urgency. That said, I have met students at the beginning of Senior year and led them in creating a strong application by early deadlines. I’ll meet you where you are!

As a high school counselor, I had large caseloads and found I could not give students the individualized attention they deserved when it came to college admissions and applications. There simply wasn’t time or capacity to provide guidance, essay help, and individual planning for our entire caseload while also managing other responsibilities of school counseling. We gave full group guidance and processes, and quick individual meetings with more general advice. Now, I have several years of experience and professional development in only College Counseling, and I make time to walk each client through a personalized plan and process. I am also available evenings and weekends when students are available, without missing valuable class time to meet.

I look at a student holistically. I have a conversation about their academic profile, their major and career goals, their preferences in location and size of a school and social life fits, and recommend schools that may be a good fit. I guide students and parents in researching potential schools and solidifying 10-15 to apply to.
